Botswana Federation of Public Sector Unions (BOFEPUSU) intends applying for a court interdict against the minister of Labour and Home Affairs Edwin Batshu following his tabling of the Trade Dispute Amendment (TDA) Bill this week.

Last year, BOFEPUSU attempted to stop the minister from tabling the bill following a November 26, 2015 consultative meeting with the Advisory Board (LAB). The meeting, which BOFEPUSU was not invited to, was supposedly to discuss the proposed amendments to the TDA Bill amongst other things. It was then reported that Batshu had refused to engage and invite BOFEPUSU to the said meeting.

Mmegi is in possession of a letter dated December 7, 2015 served to both the LAB chairperson and the Attorney General in her representative capacity for and on behalf of the ministry of Labour and Home Affairs. In its intend letter to sue, BOFEPUSU through its legal representatives Onalethata Kambai, is seeking an order compelling Batshu to convene a fresh consultative meeting of the LAB and invite appointed representatives of BOFEPUSU.
