The Botswana Mine Workers Union (BMWU) yesterday proposed a debriefing meeting with President Ian Khama following a petition to him on the closure of BCL Mine and its subsidiary, Tati Nickel Mining Company (TNMC).

Khama's Private Secretary, George Tlhalerwa received the petition on behalf of Khama yesterday afternoon at Notwane Grounds in Gaborone.

The petition was scheduled for late Thursday morning, but was delayed after the police refused to issue the permit for the demonstration, as they did not agree on the routes requested for the march.   The union had wanted to march to the Office of the President, past the South African High Commission and the Main Mall before arriving at Notwane Grounds.
