FRANCISTOWN: Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) 2014 general elections council candidate for Somerset East Gaone Lewanika has confirmed that he has left the party to re-join the Botswana Congress Party (BCP).

This contradicts a denial by BMD leaders early this week. Until his resignation Lewanika was also the secretary of BMD’s Francistown region.

“I gave my resignation letter to the BMD Francistown region on Friday. I have since written a letter demanding to join the BCP and I am waiting for their response which I assume will be positive,” he said. On Tuesday the BCP Francistown South region confirmed that Lewanika has re-joined the party adding that his membership has been transferred to Francistown East. BCP chairperson for Francistown East Kagiso Koontse also confirmed the latest development.
