BMD takes the fight to Khama

FRANCISTOWN: In its quest to win more support in the north, newly formed Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) has vowed to leave no stone unturned.

In an emotional rally, BMD executive committee interim leadership once again took turns to disparage President Ian Khama, his leadership and the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP)

Deputy BMD chairman, Botsalo Ntuane told the massive rally on Saturday that: "In the life of any country, there comes a time for change." He was quick to regret that: "Things were messed up from the time former president Festus Mogae handed the baton of power to Khama". He challenged the BDP to call a snap election to prove its mettle. "In Malawi and Zambia when the ruling party split, a new government was ushered in, so what can prevent Batswana from doing the same?" he wondered.  He indicated that local trade unions speak the BMD language of changing the government and this is a positive development. Ntuane indicated that the only thing that could keep the BDP in power is the recall of its leader Khama. He said in 2014, the BDP will be consigned into the archives because "power shall change hands". He said the BDP has overstayed in power and corruption is creeping into its leadership.
