FRANCISTOWN: The Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD), a party within the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), has disowned one of its prominent activists, Omphile Mazebedi.

Mazebedi, along with Lillian Griesmier, recently contested the UDC primaries for the vacant Phillip Matante East constituency and lost to Uyapo Nyeku.  At Nyeku’s launch over the weekend, BMD secretary general, Wynter Mmolotsi implied that Mazebedi had ditched the party, without giving details. At the same rally, Botswana Congress Party (BCP), leader, Dumelang Saleshando also made similar remarks, which created an impression that Mazebedi had left the UDC.

Contacted for comment yesterday, Mmolotsi said Mazebedi had quit the UDC though she had not submitted an official resignation.
