Old Naledi Senior Secondary School (NSSS) students painted government enclave blue on Friday celebrating the school's performance in the recently released 2011 Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Examinations (BGSCE) results.

For the third time, NSSS emerged the best BGCSE performer."We are very happy to be going to Naledi SSS, which continues to excel in the BGSCE. I sit for the same exam this year. I am going to work very hard to keep the high standard," a female NSSS student said. Another said it was very encouraging for the school to emerge as the highest performer once again given the environment in which the 2011 examinations were written."But we hope all that happened last year does not recur because many other lives could go down the drain. I am just imagining how the performance could have been if 2011 had been a normal school year," she added.

Marching from the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) premises where they apparently thanked the leadership for their success, the students wore beaming faces. In other parts of Botswana the results elicited weeping.A record 6,440 students were awarded grade A or better for all the BGCSE subjects, a 0.24 percent decrease from the 2010 results. This is out of a total 28,702 candidates who sat the examinations.  The Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) admitted that results show a steady decline since 2007.  In that year, 10,760 students were awarded grade A or better, 8 928 in 2009, 8,751 in 2008, 7,181 in 2010.
