Former cabinet minister and business magnate David Magang says government failed to adopt the idea of diamond beneficiation over 30 years back.

Speaking during the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA) Dinner last week Magang said he was concerned that although there is renewed effort to beneficiate, it took government over three decades to adopt the idea of beneficiation.

“The diamonds were a blessing to us when we were poor after independence. But it was a curse also. Government became too rich as general policy we neglected to diversify the economy. It became a sorry phenomenon-the diamond curse,” said Magang.
