BEC continues probe into examination leaking

The head of the Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) Dr Serara Moahi says the ongoing investigation into the leaking of the marking scheme is a complex issue, which they hope to conclude within the query period of six weeks.

She told the press on Wednesday during the 2012 Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education presentation in the capital. Moahi said there were several actors and contributors in the game. She further said investigations started within the BEC and that appropriate action would be taken against those who assisted in the leak.

"It is a complex investigation and it has got nothing to do with the MALEPA system because the exam papers and marking scheme are stored elsewhere not in that system," she said. Moahi, who is also the president of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA) said the police would be roped in if need arise, given the nature of the probe.  The BEC could not tell which centres are involved in this case, but the officials said the problem is not nationwide.
