FRANCISTOWN: The looming council by-election at Kalakamati village has rekindled hopes for the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) to reclaim the ward from the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).

The by-election comes in the wake of the recent death of BDP councillor Israel Samu, who was laid to rest last Saturday. Traditionally, the ward was the stronghold of UDC coalition partner party, the Botswana People’s Party (BPP)

The BDP shockingly won the ward in the 2014 general elections having previously lost it twice to the latter.
