The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has terminated the employment contracts of top managers at its secretariat and gave them till next week to leave.

The four employees axed from Tsholetsa House this week are executive secretary Sechele Sechele; his deputy Lee Lesetedi; political officer Martha Keboletse; and accounting officer Osenotse Malela. The party warned its employees of an impending restructuring exercise on March 15, 2015.

The BDP central committee met on Monday to decide the fate of the four employees who were not allowed to take minutes of the meeting. Usually, the executive secretary or the deputy takes the minutes of the central committee meeting.  “We were informed about termination of our employment on Tuesday.  By the end of next week, we will  no longer be employees of Tsholetsa,” Lesetedi said. He said they are expecting termination letters any time this week. The BDP has 47 employees - 35 at its Tsholetsa House headquarters, and 12 in Francistown, Maun and Kang.  The party recorded a loss of P22 million last year, mainly as a result of heavy spending in the general elections.
