The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has fired its senior elections officer, Lamodimo Dikomang, after she was found guilty of trying to manipulate results of the Tonota North primaries.

The decision was made last week in Gaborone by the BDP Disciplinary Committee which met to determine the fate of Dikomang.

In a missive to the media, BDP Disciplinary Committee secretary, Lee Lesetedi said after looking at the gravity of the charges, the plea of guilty and apology in mitigation by Dikomang, it was decided that she should be removed from the Political Education and Elections Committee (PEEC). She was barred from holding any position of responsibility or office within the party for a one year. However she remains an active member of the party. Dikomang landed in trouble for bringing ballots she claimed she found at the polling station during the primary elections in Tonota North. Her accusers at the time said she was trying to rig the elections won by Fidelis Molao who eventually won the seat. Meanwhile, Dikomang denied appearing before the Disciplinary Committee. "I am not aware of any ruling against me by the Disciplinary Committee," she said.
