BCP/BAM candidate vows to halt airport expansion

Maun West parliamentary candidate Maoparankwe Mpho of BCP/BAM has vowed to block the expansion of Maun Airport in the middle of the village and push for the construction of a new one elsewhere if elected in the October general elections.

Speaking to Mmegi this week he said: "I am going to approach the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) about the risk of expanding the airport in the middle of the village, a new airport should instead be constructed at a safe place like Chanoga," situated 30km east of Maun along Francistown/Maun road.

If elected, the fulfillment of his promises would be eagerly awaited because currently it is clear the government has already taken a decision to expand the airport. DCA has already compensated and relocated residents affected by the project to a new place at Disaneng.
