Banyana farms outsourcing beneficial

Since the Banyana Farms were leased to foreign investors, more and more local farmers are utilising and sourcing purebred Simmental and Santa Gertrudis Bulls from the government owned operations. Parliament was appraised of this last week.

Nine investors have been awarded portions of Banyana Farms, five of which are South Africans. The latter are involved in cross breeding of Bonsmara and Simbra.

The Minister of Agriculture, Christian De Graaf told Parliament that Batswana would also soon be able to buy purebred Boer goats locally as the new look farms serve as model commercial livestock farming enterprises, where local farmers can benchmark from.
