In an effort to advance Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), The Botswana Accountancy College (BAC) has partnered with the United Nations Botswana to help the business school achieve its goals.
BAC Executive Director, Serty Leburu, stated that the partnership offers them an opportunity to promote the SDGs on a larger scale. She noted that as the institution alone there isn't much they could do but with the UN by their side they will thrive. "As a wise man said, if you want to fast go alone but if you want to go far go together; This is the BAC modus operandi as our growth and impact aren't temporary or short term. "Our growth is embedded in collaboration which has made us who we are today and beyond," Leburu said.
Through the partnership, she highlighted that the collaboration will facilitate the integration of the SDGs in the BAC curriculum and research in areas of digital transformation, economic development, and climate change. The collaboration will also target three key tenets of the SDGs, Leburu elaborated. "Its signing covers three critical areas being engagement of youth in SDG-related initiatives, impactful investing in SDGs, and applied research," she said.
The BAC boss highlighted that the partnership isn't just a symbolic agreement but a call to action to the dire constraints the world is dealing with. "The challenges we face, climate change, economic instability, and inequality demand bold and sustained efforts. Through this partnership we are ensuring that the SDGs aren't just ideals but a practical roadmap for Botswana's future," she added. For his part, Resident Coordinator of UN in Botswana, Zia Choudhury stated that the collaboration with BAC offers them a great opportunity to promote the SDGs that lapse in 2030 as a target had been set. "We are excited to collaborate with BAC as this partnership will significantly enhance our efforts to promote and implement the SDGs," he said. He further said the collaborative effort between the UN and BAC was a strategy to ensure that no one is left behind in promoting the SDGs to drive meaningful change across the globe. "The strong interest in and support for the SDGs agenda across the world and in this case universities and academic institutions fuels our determination and hope," he added.
