Baby dies from suspected cobra bite

A 15-month-old baby died late Sunday after she was bitten by a snake suspected to be a cobra at Durban cattlepost in the outskirts of Letlhakane in the Boteti sub-district.

Letlhakane Police station commander, superintendent Michael Maphephu said parents of the deceased baby alleged that while sleeping at night the were awoken by a baby’s cry.

Police said when the mother picked the baby up she saw a snake slithering away and she subsequently realised that it has bitten the baby.  The baby was hurried to Letlhakane Primary Hospital and was certified dead upon arrival.
