FRANCISTOWN: A plea of guilty saved a man from the gallows, earning him instead a 20-year sentence for the murder of his girlfriend. Last week Friday, Justice Zibani Makhwade sentenced Peter Nsiwa for killing his girlfriend at Jamataka village in 2012.

Passing sentence, Makhwade said he took into consideration that Nsiwa pleaded guilty to the charge and did not waste the court’s precious time.

“I find that there were extenuating circumstances that led the accused to commit the offence. The accused and the deceased were live-in lovers who had two children together. The accused said that the deceased was unfaithful to him and uncooperative,” said Makhwade.
