Art therapy as a tool in the learning process

Caroline Chriss, an art therapist from Maryland, USA says the concept of art therapy can be integrated in the learning process in different educational contexts.

She says the creative arts like music and drama can be combined with the written work to allow students to fully express themselves in a variety of ways. Chriss who is in the country at the invitation of Raising Education Within Africa, in partnership with Cross Border Projects, is offering art therapy workshops to schools and children's organisations in the community.

The purpose of the workshops is to enable young people to express and understand their feelings, dreams and goals through creative means. The workshop is useful especially to those who find it difficult to use language to express themselves.
