Alleged rustlers sue police P600,000

FRANCISTOWN: Two men, Olesitse Ramatsuru and Edward Masala, are suing the Botswana Police Service (BPS) P600,000 for assault after being arrested on July 26, 2014 for allegedly stealing cattle.

Their case continued at the Francistown High Court on Friday.  The applicants’ counsel Anthony Manenji said his clients are seeking damages against the Attorney General (AG) for an alleged assault they suffered at the hands of the police and for breach of duty by the police.  The men also claim that Jacob Masima, the alleged cattle owner, assualted them while the police looked on.

The AG is representing the commissioner of BPS in the matter while the applicants have since resolved their suit against Masima out of court.
