FRANCISTOWN: The investigation officer in a case in which a suspected paedophile allegedly raped his young cousin told the court that the accused has admitted to having committed the offence.

Detective Assistant Superintendent Lawrence Nthoiwa said the accused who was 19-years-old when he allegedly raped his five-year-old cousin on December 19, 2013 at Riverside location asked for forgiveness when he confronted him about the allegation.

“The accused said he called the victim into his bedroom then undressed her before penetrating her from the back.  I asked him to submit a statement of what happened, but he told me that he would say everything in court… I later prepared a sexual assault kit, which I sent to the laboratory.  The medical report showed that the child was recently penetrated,” said Nthoiwa.
