Adolescent pregnancy is a human rights issue - UN report

Instead of measures seeking to change the behaviour of girls, a human rights approach is needed to effectively tackle adolescent pregnancy, a United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) report has found.

Released recently, the State of the World Population 2013 report states that many of the methods aimed at curbing this social ill fail to address drivers of adolescent pregnancy. 

The report argues that upholding the basic human rights that girls are entitled to can help eliminate many of the conditions that contribute to adolescent pregnancy and help mitigate many of the consequences to the girl, her household and her community.
