About 15,000 children head households in Botswana

FRANCISTOWN: About 15, 000 children have parental responsibility for households across the nation, executive Secretary of Child line Botswana, Olebile Machete has revealed.

Speaking at the ongoing City of Francistown Full Council, he said two percent of the 737,241 children in the nation are leading households where there is a chance they will lose out on their formative years and their education.

Machete added that as of the end of June 2023, there were 18, 322 registered orphans. Amongst the registered orphans 9, 104 are males and 9,218 are females. In addition, he stated that additional factors make about 37, 023 children vulnerable. According to Machete property grabbing is still a problem for orphaned children.
