Deserving visual artists will get a chance to be awarded for their talent and hard work tonight at the 11th edition of Thapong Artist of the Year Awards (TAYA). The awards will be held at Thapong Visual Arts Centre and the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Thapelo Olopeng will be officiating at the event.

According to Thapong director, Reginald Bakwena, the awards have shown growth in the number of competition participants.

“Last year we received 84 entries, but this year we got 97 entries and that shows growth as more artists are now showing interest in the awards,” he said.  He added that the artists have also developed in the area of presentation. Bakwena, however, said they are still concerned about the content from the artists.
