A theatre group perfoming Biko's Quest at Artscape thearte

As a way of improving drama and script writing in the country, the Department of Arts and Culture under the Ministry of Youth Sport and Culture has introduced a category of script writing for the President's award.

The winner will pocket P20,000. Principal Performing Arts Officer Bopelo Gaathusi said the winner's script would be used by different drama groups for their plays during President's Day Drama Competitions. The theme script is "Beyond 2016: Creative Industries-way forward".

He said after a number of years, each group was coming up with their own script and they found out that they were not doing justice for the category since there were competitions with different scripts.
