In a vibrant celebration of culture and unity, the Ovaherero Youth Council (OYC) will host its inaugural event, bringing together Herero youth from across Botswana. The event is set to be held at Mahalapye, Lorna Farms on March 28, 2026.

"We are creating a platform for leadership development, cultural preservation, unity, and socio-economic empowerment," says Eric Kuaima, president of the OYC. "Our goal is to reconnect young people with their heritage while preparing them to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the nation," said Kuaima. The inauguration will feature an array of traditional performances, including Herero hymns performed by choirs, traditional music, and cultural entertainment. Local artists will also take to the stage, showcasing their talents and adding to the vibrant atmosphere.

Attendees can expect to see the iconic Victorian-inspired dresses, a symbol of Herero identity and pride, as well as an array of traditional art and crafts. "The event will provide a platform for showcasing traditional Herero attire, as well as cultural expression through art and crafts," says Kuaima.
