Organisers of the upcoming Seharona Cultural event, slated for December 6, have scheduled a beauty pageant titled Miss Seharona on July 5 at The Life Centre in Maun.
The founder of Miss Seharona, Lorato Tembwe explained that the pageantry is a precursor for the Seharona Cultural Event, an annual celebration of Botswana's diverse cultures in harmony and shared pride. Tembwe said the queen will be an ambassador of the Seharona Cultural Event. She explained that an urge to empower women, supporting the women in pageantry to see their dreams come to pass, was the main reason she was hosting Miss Seharona. "The aims are to promote our culture and tradition. Culture is beautiful, hence I am working with these beautiful ladies to remind people about the beauty of our culture. The theme for the Miss Seharona Beauty Pageant With A Purpose project is, 'Embracing my culture, a powerful tool to combat social ills.' This is to tell that when culture is embraced, it can help combat social ills within our communities. Dikgosi, dikgosana, the District Commissioner and other stakeholders (culture) are expected to come," she said.
Moreover, she said they initially had 10 finalists, but two dropped out for different personal reasons and now they are left with eight finalists who will be battling for the crown. She said the finalists are Mildred Thabeng from Maun, Malebogo Keongadile from Bobonong, Pearl Maribela from Mogotho, Atlang Witness Zenda from Gumare, Lorraine Lasaro from Gumare, Naledi Bofedile from Khumaga, Goratile Sehenye from Etsha 13 and Tsholofelo Polokoetsile from Gantsi. To be a finalist, she said one must be between 18 years to 36-years-old, be proud of their culture and have zeal and knowledge to advocate for it. She also mentioned that the auditions were held on April 5, 2025, where the finalists were selected. Furthermore, she said it was Miss Seharona's first season, adding that as for Seharona Cultural Event, it was once held in 2019. She said they will be having local talents performing at the pageantry in the likes of Culture Spears, Double Up, Stiger Sola, Nature BW, KoolKat, VJ Quan, Lacash, Mogaka wa koma, Man Tee, Praise Tee and other upcoming artists. "The winner will scoop P25, 000, a certificate course and two cattle. The first princess awards are two cows, the second princess walks away with one cow and our Beauty With A Purpose award winner will scoop a whooping P5, 000. The only sponsor we have at the moment is Messcase, an only boutique based in Gaborone who will be sponsoring the three crowns. The lack of sponsors poses a huge challenge to us, we want our event to be a special, memorable occasion, and we need financial support to help us achieve all these," she added..
