Miss Millennium pageant will crown a new queen on March 7th, marking a significant shift for the brand as it aligns its celebrations with International Women’s month. The outgoing queen is Chedza Pansiri.
Addressing the media this week, producer of the pageant Zenzele Hirschfeld said this year's edition is held under the theme ‘Empowered women, Empower Women’ a message she described as deeply personal to the brand’s journey since its inception.
“We are not only celebrating the 18th Miss Millennium this year but we are also celebrating resilience. It takes a woman that has been given a platform to understand how it is in order for you to be able to empower another woman,” Hirschfeld said.
The grand finale will take place at Millennium Jazz Restaurant, deliberately scheduled a day before the world marks International women’s day.
Hirschfeld also said the pageant has, for the past three years, aligned itself with women’s day instead of its earlier February dates.
“This year we are doing it a day before the whole world stands to celebrate women. We are more like prelude,” she said.
In a notable change, this year’s competition will feature a top eight instead of the usual top 10. She emphasised that the reduction is not about cost cutting but about maintaining standards.
“We don’t just reduce for the sake of prizes. We look at the intellectual value and the principles that the cohorts of that particular year bring,” she said.
She added, “In terms of the intellectual value that lies behind this year’s participants, you can see a lot of growth and we are looking for a befitting queen to take over the baton,” she said.
The crowning night will feature glamour, glitz and a showcase of talent including local entertainment acts to be unveiled through the pageant’s social platforms. The opening tribute will pay tribute to a local artist, Vee Mampeezy recognized for social impact in line with Botswana’s 60 years of independence celebrations.
As the countdown to March 7 begins, organizers maintain that Miss Millennium 2026 will not only crown a queen but reaffirm its footprint locally and beyond.
