KHAWA: After a long day of different sports activities, many people including Khawa residents flocked to the music festival area where they were entertained by artists.

The festival was indeed a great gesture to wrap up the Khawa Dune Challenge and Cultural Festival. It brought life and a perfect night out for the residents who attended it in numbers. The event gave the people an opportunity to watch their favourite artists in action for the first time. Local DJs also came fully prepared and it was clear that they knew their target audience as they served them with endless good music. Amongst them was DJ Fondo Fire who kick-started the event with beautiful rhythms. Even though he performed longer than other DJs, Fondo as he is affectionately called by his fans, kept the fire burning with his DJ’ing skills.

In addition, DJ Barks also found it fit to keep the momentum with old school Kwaito and house music. He also played Amapiano here and there. As it is a norm, the veteran DJ and Yarona FM manager, Owen Rampha, also famed as Mr O behind the discs, brought his A game. He treated his audience to the latest Amapiano and different genres of music, driving his young fans insane. Even though he is a proven talented artist, Sereetsi and The Natives’ performance seemed to have won the hearts of only a few people. He, however, realised that many people especially the residents did not understand his music and therefore patiently explained, engaged and encouraged them to sing along, guiding them. On the other hand, Mochudi born Motswako/rap artist, Bacon Moitoi, famed as Baxon, treated the audience to a few of his songs.

Whilst the Police chief’s plea is rightly directed at parents, the root of this emergency runs deeper, demanding a collective response from every corner of our community. Marathe’s observations paint a picture of neglect with children left alone for...
