After pleading with the government to increase the National Arts Festival prize monies, local creatives have finally got their wish after the Minister of Youth, Gender, Sports and Culture Tumiso Rakgare announced that the prize monies will be increased to match the creative talents of the artists.

Several industry players have in the past scolded the government for low prizes given to winners of the National Arts Festival, which was formerly the President’s Day Competitions.

They called for the review of the prizes stating that it could contribute to the decline in the quality of the work Submitted for the competitions. The festival attracts a large number of participants and has been growing every year since its establishment. The prize monies increase at the national finals.
