This weekend, the local creative industry will witness an exciting event as media personalities, Khumo Kgwaadira popularly known, as Missgeekays and Jessica Molefe host a networking event dubbed 'Content Creators Brunch.
' The brunch is slated for March 15 at Kana Kgang from 10a:m till 6p:m. It is aimed at fostering collaboration, networking and industry growth among local content creators. As per Missgeekays through an interview, the brunch will bring creators from various fields with a goal to redefine the creative industry in Botswana by emphasising the power of partnerships. “We hope that through this content creators brunch, it will exceed people’s expectations. It will help creators know how to tap into the business side of content creation and understand that they need to be paid for their services,” she said. Though she put an emphasis on being paid for the content since monetization is still a challenge in Botswana, she acknowledged that sometimes when one is a newbie they could do things for exposure. But in the long run they get remunerated for such services.
She highlighted that for content creation in Botswana to thrive, creators have to come together and provide a unit front that will put them on front foot when doing business. “Content creation is no longer a solo thing, it thrives on partnerships and teamwork. I want creators to be able to approach me and ask me how much could they charge for their services,” she said. Regarding business of the day, she pointed out that there would be panel on the day, some entertainment and food to create great ambiance for the brunch. “Oh on the day we have a panel that features our content creators like Theo Mojumi who fairly established himself recently. He will us how he does it and hopefully inspire another out there alongside other panelists,” she said. Missgeekays also highlighted that the creative industry in Botswana is on the rise hence the need for such kind of brunches for content creators to help them with equip new skills and knowledge. Tickets for the brunch are sold for P250 each, which comes with complimentary food. While a stall goes for P500. Acts on the line up include; Casper the dj, Macx Wa Bana, Thuli Tools and DJ Nendiyo.
