A young Motswana artist, Boago Fenju has been selected for membership of the African Music Academy Honourary Committee.

The Botswana Music Union (BOMU) secretary general, Rasina Rasina, said in a statement that Boago Fenju triumphed against 360 African artists to be selected into the committee. He added that the France-based African Music Academy is an association under the French law of 1901. He said the initiative was created in 2014 with ambitions to promote pan-African music from the African continent and the Diaspora. “This initiative includes educational competitions, and professional actions, as well as dedicated awards. The initiative seeks to primarily sustain the African musician at the core of both the message and the architecture. At the beginning of the nomination process, 360 African artists were nominated across six categories of: composers, songwriters, producers, managers, performers and musicians,” he said.

Rasina further explained that all African countries, across all African regions, took part, and Botswana was represented in all six categories by: Kearoma Rantao, Suffocate, Mmurubele, Han-C, Fella, and Boago Fenju. However, Boago Fenju thus triumphed against 53 African artists in the song writers’ category. Boago Fenju is said to have been nominated under the song writers’ category of the 2025 African Academy Music Awards competing against 53 of the 320 African Artists, inclusive of the likes of the legendary Siphokazi of South Africa. Rasina added that an event has been organised in France where she will be officially designated.
