Local fine artist, Kenneth Bale will host his very first exhibition dubbed State Of Emergency (SoE) at Gaborone Club in Gaborone from November 6-7, 2021.
Just 13 months in the game and I have done well. The event is about promoting, educating and rising awareness about topics affecting us as a nation, like poaching, COVID-19 and GBV and humanity struggles we face as Batswana.
At the same time I will be showing the beauty of our wildlife and cultural lifestyle of Batswana,” he explained. Bale also said as a visual artist, challenges came in different sizes and shapes, for instance, he sometimes struggles finding inspiration and the right audience/target market. He added that lack of financial assistance to broaden up his craft in terms of marketing and advertising also did not make things easy for him. He, however, pointed out that he hosted the State Of Emergency online art exhibition last year on his social media pages.
He explained that he got attention, traffic in his pages saying he intended on growing page audience for this upcoming event. His goal is to sell a few paintings on the spot and donate proceedings of the awareness paintings. Amongst his paintings, Bale disclosed that his work titled 'Awakening The Hero' was one of his favourite. The painting portrays a message that he is no stranger to anxiety, depression and therefore understands what other people are going through. He indicated that his work has been an incredible and important part of his therapy.
He said sometimes people wonder in darkness seeking for light failing to realise that the light was in the heart of the darkness. “Some of my paintings are abstract representation of recognisable material such as wild animals, human body shapes, especially ladies. The most important thing is beauty. I can choose an awful subject, a tragedy but I try to paint a beautiful and expressive artwork,” he said.
