In their quest to appreciate and honour the elderly people, Bagaka Ba Pele TV show will host an early Christmas event in Bobonong on December 21, 2024.

The show’s founder and executive producer, Dr Kelemogile Ramasu, told Arts&Culture that they would be giving free eye care and reading glasses to elderly people. He added that the event would also be opulent with food, poetry, song and celebrations. There will be performances by George Swabi, Sebonda Cultural Group, Kgolesego Brass Band, Gwizyman and Botswana Pantsula Association. “There will also be a motorcade in the morning, which comprises vintage cars from Jay’s Wedding Cars, Altezza Crew, Toyota Hilux and the residents,” he said. Ramasu stated that they realised that the festive season was mostly about young people, with the elderly people almost forgotten. He therefore said they would love to see the senior citizens being celebrated, loved and honoured through this initiative. Furthermore, he said they were targeting about 800 elders from the Bobirwa District.

He said most of them had been forgotten saying they would want them to be remembered and honoured. He also pointed out that Season One played successfully on Botswana Television, adding that they were now documenting Season Two. “Bagaka Ba Pele TV show is one of the fastest growing shows in Botswana. So far we have hosted many events like the Art Exhibition, Elderly Service Days and Golf Day. We are also on a plan to make documentary movies about the life of Kgosi Tshekedi Khama, Kgosi Bathoen Gaseitsewe and Sir Seretse Khama. We have managed to teach a lot of Batswana about their history and also feed their nostalgia. We have impacted a lot of lives in many ways. From the elderly service days, we managed to save elders from possible blindness by helping them with spectacles. We have also managed to help George Swabi with eye care and also spectacles,” he ended.
