Youth Make Telling Effect On Poll Outcome

The country's 10th national elections saw the youth register and vote in numbers not seen in years.

From the long queues that many endured and the excitement displayed at the thought of casting a vote for the first time, it was apparent that the youth will always be happy to see the difference they made. On October 16 the electorate were eager to cast their ballots, particularly young voters voting for the first time were elated. Monitor learnt that young people were determined to have an input in the formation of the country's next government.

Oagomotse Kaelo, from Gaborone Central constituency, who was in the queue by 4.30am,says being a citizen of any country goes with rights. However, he says many a time people tend to focus more on demanding those rights but fail to see that rights come with responsibility.
