Ian Cumming, 72, settled in Pandamatenga after arriving from Zimbabwe in the early 1980s. He has been farming in the area for about 40 years.

He started from humble beginnings with the bailing of grass and selling to the government through the Livestock Advisory Centres (LAC) that subsidised feed for farmers during drought years.

When asked as to what keeps him here in the bush while he could be elsewhere in the metropolis like most people, he says: “Most people don’t want to farm anymore. They want a nice job in the city, where they have all the amenities, which is good for them. We all love to live well”.

A step in the right direction

That is indeed a welcome development, especially looking at the fact that the manual way of doing things is slowly disappearing and competency in the use of computers and other digital gadgets has become a must.The simple way of looking at it is just an example that almost all companies have gone completely digital and school leavers will be better placed after leaving school, because they will already be familiar with the use of computers.The...
