The battle against cancer continues

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is marked around the world every October with the objective of helping increase attention and support for the awareness, early detection and treatment as well as palliative care of this disease. However, when the commemorations are done with, the deadly disease remains. To interrogate the issue further, Mmegi reporter BABOKI KAYAWE talks to the Cancer Association of Botswana (CAB), the Gaborone based NGO dedicated to reducing the impact of cancer in Botswana

Mmegi: Now that Breast Cancer Month has been observed, would you say Batswana understand the disease more than they did before?

CAB: Cancer awareness, particularly breast cancer, is growing in the community. CAB has noted that over the years, more people inquire (over the telephone, website and social media platforms) about where they can go for breast examinations. We have taken part in more than 100 wellness activities (presentations and stalls), as compared to about 50 in 2010 and 2011. We have also had a number of individuals joining the association as volunteers to assist in disseminating information.
