The African arms procurement index

In previous years, the United Nations has raised concern over the excessive purchase and accumulation of small arms weapons which are apportioned a larger blame for the massacres that have taken place in the continent of Africa.

Unlike in other countries like Cambodia and Vietnam, African inhabitants have suffered death from gunshots from AK 47s, Smirnoffs, Fabric Nationals (FN) and other such weapons of the same or similar calibres as opposed to landmines in Asia and Latin America.

The genocide in Rwanda was largely perpetrated with small arms and to a smaller extent machetes and spears.
