That surly driver could kill you!

Owing to a combination of inadequate roads, bad manners and life in the fast lane, road accident fatalities have risen from 9.9 to 26.4 per 100,000 population between 1981 and 2009, writes GREG KELEBONYE

It is not that difficult to get a driver's licence in Botswana. You simply need to pass the theory test, the parking test, the road test and you are set.

Afterall, you can turn a steering wheel and tell the accelerator from the brake pedal. Plus, the roads in this country are generally good; even better, if you are driving in the city. You do not have to dredge your brains to figure out what you are expected to do because the roads have clear line markings, traffic lights and signs with pictures on them telling you if, say, you are passing a school.
