Takeover of brigades nearly completed- Zuze

Nearly a year after the deadline on the programme, government has taken over 39 of 41 brigades in Botswana so far, Mmegi has established.

The principal public relations officer in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, Nomsa Zuze, says the two-phase programme saw 21 brigades taken over in 2009 and 18 this year. Speaking in an interview with Mmegi this week, Zuze said the remaining two were Ramatea Vocational Centre in Kanye and Pudulogong Rehabilitation Centre in Mochudi.

Pudulogong has requested time to sort out some issues while Ramatea is opposed to the takeover. "The ministry will soon be following up the Pudulogong board and giving a definite takeover date," she said. MoE is also seeking answers regarding the fate of the Ramatea employees and students. "The common character for the two brigades that have not been absorbed is that they are church-owned," Zuze explained.
