Phikwe and its tourism potential

SELEBI-PHIKWE: World Tourism Day, September 27 will this year be commemorated in Selebi-Phikwe. The town itself has been noted as having great potential as a tourism destination, especially if fully explored.

This is crucial for the town's economy that needs a major boost. Within its reach, Selebi-Phikwe has the Tuli Block area that has a range of wildlife, commercial farming and lodges in the Bobirwa side, gorges, diverse belief systems and archaeological sites in Tswapong area, Letsibogo dam and its recreational facility potentials around Mmadinare and Mmabesi cemetery in Old Palapye.

The much anticipated cultural village in Maope harbours prospects for the town's tourism potential. Within the town the mine itself can be explored as a tourism destination through its mine related tourism like steam train excursions.
District Tourism Officer Mogomotsi Baletetse said what tourism is all about remains a challenge to many people who end up not able to utilise the existing tourism potential around them.
