Botswana fails to mark sadc health day again

Botswana has once again failed to commemorate the SADC Healthy Lifestyle Day, which was marked on Friday.

Since its first commemoration in 2008, Botswana has failed to observe the day though the government says it recognises its importance.  The director of Public Health, Sheenaz El-Halabi said on Friday that they are planning to mark the day though she could not say when. She said the Ministry of Health recognises the day and its importance to the region as non-communicable diseases continue to claim lives. This year's event is commemorated under the theme: 'Walking for a healthy heart'

"We are in the process of planning to commemorate the day, it does not necessarily have to be Friday," El-Halabi said.
