While we go into the Christmas and New Year periods, lovingly referred to by many as the festive season, we have a different buzz about them.

The air starts to change when the calendar hits December 1, many people get excited and start to ready themselves for the big feasts that come with the two holidays.

While there is absolutely nothing wrong with celebrating the holidays, we at The Monitor implore you to enjoy yourselves responsibly. We value you as our readers and most importantly your country needs you! The sad reality is that the festive season comes with a lot of travel, which unfortunately increases the likelihood of fatal road accidents.

Depression is real; let's take care of our mental health

It is not uncommon in this part of the world for parents to actually punish their children when they show signs of depression associating it with issues of indiscipline, and as a result, the poor child will be lashed or given some kind of punishment.
