Leading luxury ecotourism operator, Wilderness Safaris, has officially opened its rebuilt flagship DumaTau Camp, which is located in the pristine Linyanti Wildlife Reserve.

This luxe greensward seven-star camp is set to position the area as one of the most exclusive and luxurious safari destinations in Africa, with a focus on providing guests with unparalleled comfort while maintaining a deep commitment to sustainability. The official opening took place last week and was praised by the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Wynter Mmolotsi, who graced the event. Addressing the gathering, he said the continued growth of Wilderness in Botswana attests to the company’s commitment to the economic development of the country coupled with improving the economic livelihood of the people of the North West region. “Wilderness has demonstrated the uttermost commitment to growing the economy of Botswana through investment in tourism and the general welfare of the people of this country,” Mmolotsi added.

For his part, Wilderness Safaris CEO, Keith Vincent said the DumaTau Camp is the latest move in the listed group’s ongoing investment in high-end sustainable tourism. "At Wilderness Safaris, we are committed to both the conservation of this spectacular wilderness and delivering world-class experiences for our guests," he said. "DumaTau Camp is the latest step in our ongoing investment in high-end sustainable tourism. It is not only about providing an extraordinary stay but also about supporting local communities and wildlife conservation in the region," he added. The camp sits on the banks of the mighty Linyanti River, offering a combination of cutting-edge design and eco-friendly innovations. The facilities include spacious luxury tents with expansive decks, a redesigned main lodge featuring a spacious lounge and dining areas, and a beautifully designed infinity pool overlooking the river. All these amenities aim to offer guests an intimate and immersive experience in the heart of Botswana’s wildlife-rich landscape.

The camp is nestled between two busy elephant corridors, with 45km of river frontage making it an unparalleled safari destination armed with an outstanding game viewing. Incorporating local materials and sustainable building practices, the redevelopment of DumaTau aligns with Wilderness Safaris’ philosophy of responsible tourism. The use of solar power, which cost close to P10 million according to the company’s directors, water recycling systems, and other environmentally-conscious technologies ensures that the camp operates with minimal impact on the surrounding ecosystem. The DumaTau Camp has long been a favourite amongst elite travellers, offering a rare combination of luxury and adventure. Located in a prime area for viewing Botswana’s famous wildlife, including elephants, lions, and wild dogs, the camp is a prime base for safari enthusiasts and conservation-minded travelers alike.

The upgrade is also expected to significantly boost the local economy by attracting high-net-worth tourists, creating more job opportunities in the region, and generating increased revenue for the local community trusts. As demand for luxury safari experiences continues to grow, Wilderness Safaris’ investment in DumaTau Camp demonstrates its commitment to staying at the forefront of the eco-tourism sector, combining premium services with a deep respect for nature and sustainability.
