The country’s most advanced Coal Bed Methane (CBM) energy developer, Tlou Energy, says the construction of a substation at its flagship Lesedi Project, is 85% complete.

In a market update, directors said the key substation was due to be completed by the end of the year, marking a significant step towards evacuating power into the national grid. Lesedi is Tlou’s most advanced project, with the project targeting the first power generation in mid-2025.

Officials said Lesedi remains at the forefront of Botswana’s gas-to-power sector, making substantial progress in the development of the proposed 10MW gas-to-power project. Tlou signed a power purchase agreement for the 10MW with the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) three years ago, as a pilot to testing, then boosting gas to electricity flows from the company’s wells.
