The inaugural Spring Highlight Dialogue Series, set for September 3rd at the Gaborone International Conversion Centre (GICC), is a platform meant to appreciate women leadership ahead of Botswana’s 60th Independence Celebrations.
South African public servant, academic and anti-apartheid activist, Dr Naledi Pandor has been invited as the guest speaker at the event.
The event organiser and also chairperson of The Summit Organisation, Bongani Moyo said the Spring Highlight Programme was conceived from the desire to celebrate and recognise the remarkable contributions of women in leadership, business, and public service.
He said the event is significant as it forms part of Botswana’s 60th Independence commemorations and follows the successful Botswana-South Africa Bi-National Commission convened in May 2026, which reaffirmed the strong and enduring partnership between the two countries.
“Botswana continues to produce exceptional women who are driving economic growth, shaping policy, and leading transformative change across various sectors,” he said. “The vision by The Summit Organisation is for Spring Highlight Dialogue to become an annual platform where women who are making contributions within their respective fields are celebrated.”
Moyo said with women occupying a significant number of senior leadership and executive positions in the country, organisers felt it was important to create a platform that not only celebrates their achievements but also inspires the next generation of leaders. He explained that the aim of the event is to spotlight excellence, encourage meaningful dialogue, and empower aspiring women through shared experiences and leadership insights from accomplished role model.
“Dr Pandor, who is the Chancellor of the Nelson Mandela Foundation and Chancellor of Nelson Mandela University, will address the Spring Highlight Dialogue because she is one of Africa’s most respected leaders and a distinguished stateswoman whose career exemplifies excellence, resilience, and impactful leadership. “Her journey from her formative journey in Botswana to becoming an influential leader on the African continent is both inspiring and relevant to the audience they seek to engage,” he said.
Moyo said they have admired and followed Dr Pandor’s work for some time and have long envisioned collaborating with her.
“Going forward, we intend to host the programme annually, featuring influential women across Africa and beyond, while expanding its reach and impact. “Our objectives are to build a lasting platform that inspires leadership, promotes mentorship, and facilitates valuable conversations around women’s advancement and contribution to society. “The Spring Highlight Dialogue is targeted at women in leadership positions, including chief executive officers, directors, executives, entrepreneurs, senior managers, policymakers and professional across both the public and private sectors,” Moyo said.
