SACU develops tariff database

The Southern African Customs Union (Sacu) secretariat has started the process of developing an online customs and excise tariff database and reference tool, as it issued a request for tenders from consultants to develop the system.

Sacu noted that the objective was the establishment of a central database and reference tool for the harmonised Sacu tariff regime, which would be accessible for internal and external use.

It will include ordinary customs duties, specific excise and specific customs duties, ad valorem excise and ad valorem customs duties, anti-dumping, safeguard and countervailing duties, and rebate and duty drawback provisions, as well as any other relevant duties applicable and functioning as part of the common Sacu tariff regime.
