MAUN: Lake Ngami commercial fishermen have been thrown a lifeline after sealing a lucrative fish export deal with a Zambian supplies company, Mige Agencies.

After a closed door meeting with the Lusaka-based company officials in Maun on Monday, Chairman of Lake Ngami fishing cluster, Bareetsi Bogaisang, told Mmegi that the deal has been finalised.  He said his cluster would sell 30-40 tonnes of fish per week to Mige agencies. Bogaisang said all the fish for sale will come from fish contribution by the cluster members.

The cluster currently has about 70 members fishing in the lake waters. He said the company would directly purchase from the cluster at the lake and transport the fish to Zambia.
