CEDA Holds First Forum For Its Clients

Local entrepreneurs have been advised that citizen empowerment and promotion of citizen-owned businesses is not tantamount to locking out foreign enterprises from the local economy.

Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) CEO, Thapelo Matsheka said foreigners must still operate in the local economy to ensure fair competition which is healthy for business. He told CEDA first ever customer forum, last Thursday that often, the impact of legislation on small business is not taken into consideration. "Legislation needs to be supportive to small entrepreneurs, they should not just legislate, impact on the business community has to be looked at," he said.

Participants at the forum said that mentors hired by CEDA to drill local entrepreneurs are sometimes not suited to the task at hand. Others stated that they do not trust mentors with their intellectual properties because their business ideas have been duplicated elsewhere without their permission.
