CEDA extends P3.2bn since inception

Vice President Ponatshego Kedikilwe has commended Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) for spearheading citizen economic empowerment for more than a decade.

Giving a keynote address at the agency's 10th anniversary celebrations, Kedikilwe said that CEDA, together with Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) are the arms of government tasked with the responsibility of developing entrepreneurs through the provision of funding, requisite training and mentoring.He said to date, CEDA has funded start-up businesses and expansions worth P3.2 billion in various sectors of the economy.

He explained that CEDA was established to support business development and promote citizen entrepreneurship.It was meant to redirect efforts to deal with real constraints affecting the development of citizen businesses and citizen participation in the economy. "This was done after a recommendation from both the National Conference on Citizen Economic Empowerment (NACCEE) in July 1999 and the 4th Evaluation of the Financial Assistance Policy (FAP) completed in 2000," Kedikilwe said.
