BTC Smega’s revenues rise 150%

BTC Limited’s mobile money product, Smega, is riding the crest of a wave after its subscriber base grew by 62% in the year to March 2022, while revenues more than doubled to P5.6 million over the same period.

Smega was relaunched in May 2019 at which point it had just 240 subscribers, compared to market leaders, Orange Money and Mascom’s MyZaka which by then had 751,974 and 397,459 subscribers respectively.

Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) statistics indicate that as at March this year, Smega was still trailing the market, but had improved to 144,508 subscribers, compared to 895,824 for Orange Money and 611,550 for MyZaka.
