Ramping up: The BDC is targeting a herd of 2,000 at Milk Valley Farm

The Botswana Development Corporation's (BDC) Milk Valley Farm plans to purchase Girolando dairy cattle, which are more suited to the local climate, as part of an effort to lift the herd at the key facility from the current 260 to 2,000.

Milk Valley Farm, located near Lobatse, carries the country’s hopes for higher self-sufficiency in dairy, an achievement which would also boost value-added activities in the local economy.

The farm’s current herd comprises both milking cows and replacement stock to support future herd expansion.
